Roy’s Kahana St. Patrick’s Day Beer Dinner

Luck O The Irish

If you’ve been to any of Roy’s tasting dinners and events in the past you know how generous and lavish they are. On March 17th, Roy’s Kahana celebrates the wearing of the green with a Four Course Irish Dinner paired with Ireland’s most ubiquitous beverage – Beer!

The menu includes Maui Cattle Co. Guinness braised corned beef accented delicately with the addition of cabbage and bacon. Although Irish food is not about subtlety, like a good stout, it is oh-so-satisfying. Village Sweet Shoppe Launches Daily Specials

If Mardi Gras’ association with New Orleans has recently whetted your appetite for Gumbo,  satisfy that craving at  the Village Café and Sweet Shoppe. The new eatery is launching daily specials for March, featuring New Orleans style Creole Shrimp Gumbo on Wednesdays.

On Mondays they host a  Beach BBQ Party wwith Beef Steak Kabobs, Tuesday it’s Italian night with spaghetti and meatballs, Thursday is Southern style chicken and dumplings, Friday is tailgate special featuring grilled skirt steak and mac ‘n cheese, and Saturday is North Shore Hawaii, coconut battered shrimp.

Every Sunday the Café gives us another reason to be thankful with a roasted turkey dinner complete with all the traditional trimmings. All entrees are served with classic side dishes and include soup or salad, Roselani’s ice cream and coffee and tea. Early bird deals from 4-6 pm are only $22.75/pp. Call 808-665-1122 for more info. Live Lob Wednesdays at Betty’s Beach Cafe Lahaina

Every Wednesday, Betty’s Beach Cafe flies Kona lobsters to Maui then serve  ’em up with appropriate side dishes for only $13.95 starting at 4 pm. It’s best to arrive early as they often sell out quickly to early birds who recognize what a great deal this is.

There are also daily happy hour specials 2-5 pm and again 9-11 pm during which you can enjoy $2 margaritas, $3 mai tais, $4 Kona beers, and $5 mahi ceviche.  Take a not so sneak peak at the adjoining Feast of Lele Luau which features some of the most exciting Polynesian style entertainment in Lahaina.  505 Front Street, Lahaina.  Phone 808-662-0300.

Locavore Pre-Fixe Menu’s at Grand Wailea

Sunday, March 14th begins a week-long celebration of all things local at the Grand Wailea’s Humuhumunukunukuapua`a (aka Humu) three course pre-fixe menu specials for $59/pp. Chef Isaac Bancaco is inspired by his Kula roots and all the fantastic things grown in his neighborhood to share the local bounty at the restaurant where the elegant menu items include baby tatsoi with papaya, red radish and Kula onions tossed with house-made papaya seed vinaigrette or a martini of Olowalu tomatoes skewered with caper berries and mozzarella drizzled in basil sauce.

Entrée choices include kalbi Muscovy duck with spring pea tendrils, Blue Lake beans and candied kumquats, or opakapaka with blue spice (an herb with fruit and pepper flavors), blue crab, baby spinach, Kula white corn grits and yuzu white-corn pico de gallo. To top off the special meal, dessert features peanut-butter caramel with local organic apple-banana brulee. Famous Dave Hosts Lahaina’s Longest Pau Hana

Famous Dave’s whips up some darn good pit style barbeque for West Maui fans and also offers guests Lahaina’s longest happy hour. All day long every day of the week you can order alcoholic drinks and only pay half the regular price (cocktails not included.) Why would you ever pay full price? Well, never! Plus, on Friday and Saturday nights service industry folks get 25% off all food from 8:30 – 11 pm. You know what that means – where the industry folks go, the fun soon follows.

Thar She Blows Appetizer Special at Ruth’s Chris Lahaina

Ruth’s Chris Lahaina has some of the best happy hour pupu deals on island, especially for Kama`aina.  Anyone can throw together cheap chips and dip for a couple of bucks, but at Ruth’s Chris you can tuck into the chain’s famous prime rib sliders, salads, calamari, soups and more for half price before 7 p.m.

Now the venerated steak house is also running a promotion that if you spot a whale and point it out, you get a free appetizer.  You’ll also net a free appetizer with an entrée order by mentioning that you heard it here (or on RC’s Facebook page). One small stipulation – order by 7 pm.

Sir Pizza-lot Saves the Day

Round Table Pizza has a slew of specials including BOGO (one per order), a large one topping pizza for $14.99 (save up to $6), buy one get $5 off a specialty pizza such as the heavily laden King Arthur version. Monday and Tuesday local concierges are entitled to 50% off dine in or take out, and any time at all kama`aiana are treated to 20% their tab. Round Table has outlets in Kaanapali and Kihei and offers delivery within a certain radius.

Dollie’s Famous Pau Hana

Kahana in West Maui seems to be a hotbed of sports view and brew locales (Maui Brewing Company; Black Angus included) and right around the corner from those two hot spots you’ll find Dollie’s Pizza which cooks up one of the West Side’s favorite happy hours. $3 Beers, $4 well drinks and $5 pupu specials will tide you over until dinner time – and if this is dinner time, you’re all set til tomorrow.
