Keiki Paradise - Adults Love Too
Before I even moved to Maui I attended the Sacred Hearts Bazaar whenever I’d visit for spring break. Though I’d been coming to Maui for many years, it wasn’t until I attended the carnival that I marveled at the flavor of malasadas and the scent of huli-huli chicken. It was here I experienced my first taste of chow funn, which quickly replaced mac ‘n cheese as my favorite comfort food.
It wasn’t long before I was a volunteer in a variety of carnival booths and generally fell in love with the old-fashioned home-town atmosphere of this decidedly low-tech event that raises tons of money for the school. I’d go so far as to suggest it was the overall flavor of the Sacred Heart Bazaar that prompted my eventual move to Maui. I felt right at home in this place where there really are no outsiders.
Which is why I heartily recommend you attend the event and capture, for a few hours, that essential essence of community that comes only from seeing hundreds of keiki spinning excitedly from jumping castle to tilt-a-whirl while scarfing shave ice and fried rice between attempts to finally win that big stuffed dog or real live goldfish if only they could get the quarter to land flat on the red glass plate balanced atop a coke bottle.
Maui Brew Company is setting up a beer garden next to the entertainment area. I can see no reason why anyone would miss this event!
