These days I can tell a dry aged fillet from an old piece of meat. I’ve actively participated in all areas of restaurant work, from prep cook, to head chef, from the dining room, to bar.

I grew up in Newport Beach, California, and have been in Maui for the past five years, and when there are no waves, the guitar strings are broken, and no more bets can be placed, I hit the streets in search of good food, drink, and conversation.

Richard moved to Maui a few years ago thinking about retiring. Amazingly, he perfected his golf game sooner than expected and moved on to rehabbing houses, rescuing damsels in distress, delivery things,  and along the way ferreted out the best diners and dives across Maui.

A consummate “picker” at heart, born of diversified ethnic lineage , he loves everything from Thai to barbecue, local to remote– as long as it’s cheap and good. He’s  excited to share his finds with WCM readers.
