After tasting nearly everything on Gerard’s menu during my tenure in Maui, I am hard pressed to identify favorites. For one thing, everything Gerard turns out is at least better than you’ve had elsewhere.
The evening at Chinois had already been declared a success based on the amazing flavors of the multi-course feast I shared with my two dining companions, but the presence of one of the most famous chefs in history left me struggling to compose myself.
As anticipation built once again for the bursting flavor of tacos loaded with carne asada, cilantro, and my favorite salsa, I was whisked away to a familiar place. Home.
From the outside, with its inviting covered porch and cheery painted signboard, you could be easily misled. But step inside and you’ll find Hali`imaile General Store serves gourmet, family-style meals that attract repeat diners from the world over.
